Last March, my jazz big band entered the Lange Studios (WA) to record our second album of my original jazz compositions. In collaboration with 18 (and counting!) outstanding jazz musicians from the Pacific Northwest, the Cassio Vianna Jazz Orchestra recorded half of the album in March; now I need your help to finalize the recording in a few months!
A jazz ensemble CD is a very big, costly endeavor; but as a composer, performer, and educator, I have witnessed countless times the impact that this music makes in people's lives. I have also been approached by so many people who have a passion for jazz big band music: listeners, music educators, performers, fans who understand the historical and artistic value of this exciting American art form. FAQ
1 - What type of music are you recording?
Instrumental, jazz big band music. My writing is heavily influenced by Brazilian music (the video above is a good example), but there will be a variety of styles, include straight-ahead jazz.
2 - Have you already recorded the CD?
Only half of it! We recorded about 25 minutes of music in March, 2024. I am now writing more compositions to record the 2nd half.
3 - When are you recording the 2nd half of the CD?
Our next (and last) recording session is scheduled for August, 2024. After that, we will move to the next steps of the production (mixing, mastering, printing).
4 - When do you plan to release the CD?
Our goal is to release it sometime between December 2024 and January 2025.
5 - Who are the musicians collaborating in this project?
In the first recording session we had Tom Bergeron, Mark Taylor, Alexey Nikolaev, Kareem Kandi, Kate Olson (saxophones); Andy Omdahl, Michael Van Bebber, Keith Karns, Carter Eng (trumpets); Nathan Vetter, Conner Eisenmenger, Ryan Wagner, Nelson Bell (trombones); David Joyner (piano), Brian Monroney (guitar), Clipper Anderson (acoustic bass), Wagner Trindade (electric bass), and Mark Ivester (drums).

Our next recording is set for the week of August 13, 2024; so our hope is to reach our goal by the end of July. Of course, the sooner, the better!
